This is a very interesting question and I'm glad you brought it up. The version control systems statistics, Git continues to be the most popular choice among developers in 2024, and this can be explained by several factors. First, Git offers powerful branching capabilities, which is especially important for teams working on Agile and DevOps methodologies. According to a study conducted earlier this year, more than 70% of surveyed developers preferred Git for their projects, which confirms its leading position. However, it's worth noting that systems such as Mercurial and Subversion also have their own audiences. Mercurial, although less popular, attracts attention due to its simplicity and ease of use. There are projects that have successfully used Mercurial due to its more straightforward approach. For example, some teams in large companies have noted that for their specific processes, Mercurial proves to be more intuitive. Subversion, on the other hand, is still heavily used in organizations where version control is needed for large binary files, such as in game or video development. Here it is important to realize that the choice of version control system often depends not only on personal preference, but also on the requirements of the project.

Hi colleagues, I have a question about version control system statistics for 2024. I actively use Git, but increasingly I hear about other systems such as Mercurial and Subversion. I would like to know how the preference between these systems is distributed in the development community, especially among large projects. Is there any recent data or research on this topic? I would also be interested in how exactly these systems affect the productivity of teams. Maybe someone has experience switching from one system to another? Please share!
